Siófok is the longest settlement of  Lake Balaton with its shore of 17 kilometres. The town of 23,500 inhabitants is built around the mouth of Sió river. Siófok is a holiday resort  of bustling life , the number of its inhabitants reaches around 115 tsd in the summer.
Siófok port has the heaviest  ship traffic at lake Balaton . The „Sió” flood gate  built together with the port  is used for the purpose of regulating the water-level of the river, it became over the years an interesting sight of the city.
